ANKLE-BRACHIAL INDEX TESTING
People who have peripheral artery disease (PAD) often don't experience any symptoms. That's why it's important to get tested for PAD, even if you don't have leg pain.
An ABI test measures blood flow in your legs by comparing how much pressure is needed between two points on both ankles and one arm below the elbow. The results can help determine whether further testing is necessary or if treatment options are available to improve blood flow in your legs and reduce risk of future complications due to PAD. For example, a person with diabetes may receive new medications after receiving ABI results because their risk for developing heart disease has increased significantly due to their high blood glucose.
